Never heard of this book series till now. I love Brett Helquist, stop hating on the guy. It’s not his fault the publisher wanted to change the art.

But yeah.

Holy fucking shit these drawings are depraved. That “Red Spot,” one gave me the heebie jeebies. Those eyes……

But again. This is interpretation of art and art belief. Though Helquist doesn’t capture the fucking maddening horror that clearly is the art of this satanic scripture, it is ultimately not his fault that they changed the art.

For the record I have nothing against the new artist at all, my beef is with whoever made this decision, and the people who support it. You DO NOT change something that was so perfect to it’s core. This action is an insult to these books, the generations who grew up on them, and the children who will be deprived of a proper nightmare!

They won’t rest until every jungle gym is coated in 3 feet of foam. Until every cartoon and book and movie and game is dumbed down and padded to “protect” children. Was everything always growing ever rapidly lamer by the second and I’m only realizing it more as I get older, or is there some kind of systematic campaign to make everything in the entire universe lame as shit and take the soul out of everything? IS IT JUST ME OR NOT???
